The ritual

Restores, rehydrates, soothes. Designed for after the pool or the sea: chlorine and salt disrupt the barrier function and accelerate transepidermal water loss, and this sequence restores it to its balance.

When is it included in your service menu?

This sequence begins with a restorative cleanse that removes residue without damaging the stratum corneum, continues with a boost of radiance, and concludes with lightweight, non-comedogenic hydration.

It is the exact sequence the skin needs after exposure to sun and water—designed for environments where the pool and the sun are a part of the client's daily life.

Lesson 2 of 3 · 3 min

Why does a tan fade in patches?

Before the step-by-step, the reason why: what really happens to the skin with chlorine and salt, and why this ritual is structured the way it is.

What is really happening to the skin

A tan does not fade all at once: it is lost through the progressive desquamation of the corneocytes that contain surface melanin. It is a normal and programmed process that occurs even without setting foot in a pool.

What chlorine and salt do change is the speed and order of that process: they accelerate and disrupt it. The result is an uneven, patchy tan.

Salt and chlorine, each on their own

Chlorine oxidizes the lipids in the hydrolipidic mantle. Salt is hygroscopic: it extracts water from the surface layers and leaves the skin more permeable. Together, they make it more sensitive to everything else—including the sun.

Our perspective

Silk Renew enzymatic exfoliation manages and regulates the rate of cell turnover: the tan remains even, and the skin is in better condition for the next exposure.

We work with the skin's natural rhythm, session after session, to maintain its quality throughout the entire season.
